Dr. John Gammichia - “Bringing Sexy Back to the Posterior Composite”

Gammichia 17 cropped webCourse Description: What ever happened to the filling? The plain old posterior composite...where did it go? For the last 10 years or so it has been lapped by all the “en vogue” dentistry; for example…implants, CAD-CAM, and digital impressions. It seems no one is lecturing on posterior composites. It seems there aren’t any articles written about them, there are no study clubs about them, there aren’t even any blogs about them. So if no one is talking about them, then it almost seems like they are fading away. This lecture is bringing back sexy to the filling! Yes, this is the same filling that was the first thing that you learned in dental school. Yes, this is the filling that you used to do all the time but might have gone away from. Yes, this is the filling, that when you see it on the schedule, you are very ho hum about.

This lecture can possibly revolutionize some practices. Imagine “wowing” every one of your restorative patients. Imagine your patients thrilled when they leave your office. Their excitement starts to rub off on you and the next thing you know you are excited about doing fillings. And you get even more excited because you realize you are making money doing something that is “wowing” your patients.

Course Objectives -  Upon completion of this course, attendees will:

  • Learn the step-by-step approach to natural looking posterior restorations.
  • See all the products that are needed to "wow" every patient.
  • Have information that is easy to understand and that you can implement the very next day.
  • Go over the latest science behind restorations, and how to make them last 15+ years.

Dr. John Gammichia - “Conservative Dentistry...Thinking Outside the Box"

Course Description: We all know what the books say. We all know what dental school teaches. However, we now live in the real world where patients can't afford the ideal treatment. So, you do what you think is best and tell them you don't know if it will last. Then you do that 100 times! Next thing you know, 10 years later, all 100 of those restorations are still successful. So does doing less dental work become the new ideal? In this lecture, I will tell you my experiences of thinking outside the box and how that has become the new "ideal." Conservative dentistry has become the way I have built my practice and made it fun and exciting. The beauty is that being conservative hasn't changed the bottom line, and I am just as financially successful doing less. Come to this very current lecture and see how fun and profitable thinking outside the box can be!

Course Objectives - Upon completion of this course, attendees will:
  • Know what to do when the patient can't afford ideal dentistry.
  • Be introduced to biomimetic dentistry.
  • Know the science behind being more conservative.
  • See before and after photos and 10+ follow ups.

He has also been chosen to be a featured speaker on the Academy of General Dentistry’s Speakers Bureau, where he is one of the nation’s top rated practice management and financial speakers.

While beginning his private dental practice, Dr. Portwood discovered a tremendous lack of financial knowledge and business skills among those in the health care profession. He began a journey to find the answers to his and other professionals' financial questions, which culminated in his becoming a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and earning a Master's degree in financial planning specializing in wealth management. Dr. Portwood is also a ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant) and a CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter). He also earned a Master's degree in finance in 2016 specializing in securities evaluation. Dr. Portwood is one of an extremely few financial planners and the only health provider in the nation with this level of financial education. This puts him in a unique position to help other health care professionals with their financial decisions.
