As Thanksgiving approaches, we know your patients are gearing up for the annual battle of the holiday buffet, where teeth, crowns, fillings, and implant restorations will once again be asked to perform feats no dental material was ever created to survive.
So, in the spirit of gratitude and my attempt at some humor, I present: The Thanksgiving Tooth Survival Guide
1. The Pecan Pie Stress Test (PPST)
Pecan pie is basically caramelized sugar-coated cement with the compressive strength of a small asteroid. If a patient bites straight into a day-old, fridge-hardened slice, they are essentially conducting a Class III stress test on their newly cemented posterior crowns.
Pro Tip: Recommend they warm the pie or use the "small fork technique." It can save crowns and an emergency visit.
2. Turkeys Are Soft... Bones Are Not
Y'all know it. We know it. Patients ignore it every year. One enthusiastic bite into a turkey leg and suddenly your office is doing an emergency re-prep, impression, and temporary for a broken Emax anterior while someone still has gravy on their shirt.
Reminder: Emax is strong, but never underestimate a turkey bone.
3. Pumpkin Pie: The Only Safe Food Group (and the undeniable G.O.A.T)
Soft, forgiving, and gentle on every restoration type... Pumpkin pie is the safest, and yummiest of all the holiday desserts. We strongly and confidently recommend as a certified dental lab that you encourage your patients to "stick with pumpkin." (Cranberry sauce gets an honorable mention, but only as a last resort)
4. The Candy Bowl is a Crack Propagation Laboratory
Whether it's Grandma's 1984 hard candy (the ones fused together permanently) or leftover Halloween taffy... These are the things that will have y'all working Thanksgiving week. If patients insist, encourage slow chewing, and prayer.
5. In Case the Holiday Feast Wins... Bayou State Lab is here
All jokes aside, we are truly thankful for each and every dentist in Louisiana. And for those who've placed their trust in our team, it means the world to us. Partnership, communication, and dedication to your patients health is what makes you a great dentist. And our lab will continue to grow and serve you with the same excellence you show your patients.
This year, we're grateful for:
• Dentists who care deeply about their patients & craft
• Relationships built on trust and communication
• Keeping work local, high-quality, and crafted by certified dental technicians
• And God's continued blessing over your practices, our lab, all our families, and the patients we serve together
From our Bayou State Lab family to yours...
We hope you all have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving next week! We pray your holiday is full of rest and joy!
Warmly,
Tristan Hall
