Achieving Broad Contacts

We all know getting a broad contact with adjacent teeth is ideal to hold those teeth and not allow food traps or subpar contacts. Something we've noticed in the lab is the lack of adjustments on these adjacent teeth. Take a look at the pictures above. The one on the left is the issue. But, this is an easy fix. If you take a look at the picture on the right you can see the result we need to get. Making the adjacent teeth parallel will resolve this. If we don't do this then all we can do at the lab is make contact at a high point towards the marginal ridge. If we try to go lower we will hit an undercut and the crown will not seat. So be sure at the time of prepping to trim the adjacent contacts to make them parallel. Then we can certainly get a more ideal result. We hope this helps.
